Actor, director and writer Harold Ramis has passed on at the age of 69. He died from complications related to auto-immune inflammatory vasculitis.

Ramis has battled the disease for a number of years.

He wrote such comedic gems as Caddyshack, Meatballs, Animal House, Stripes, Ghostbusters, Back to School and Groundhog Day. He also directed Caddyshack and Groundhog Day, as well as National Lampoon’s Vacation.

Ramis also appeared in more than 20 movies as an actor. His most famous character is undoubtedly Dr. Egon Spengler in Ghostbusters.
