Mayflies Invaded Wisconsin

I am from Wisconsin, but I’ve never seen anything like this. Probably because I grew up on the other side of Wisconsin. The side without the Mississippi River. It’s Mayflies. A whole hell of a lot of them.

So many, that their invasion registered on weather radar earlier this week in La Crosse.

Apparently, this area is fertile breeding ground for Mayflies. There have been six such emergences in the past two years in La Crosse. Only two have been what the National Weather Service calls massive emergences, though.

The one this week was one of them. And guess what. It looks disgusting.

Like something from a crappy horror movie about bugs.

Fortunately, these things only have a lifespan of a few days, tops.
