The BBC has something called Orkestra Obsolete, where some musicians play well-known tunes with instruments that are — you probably guessed — obsolete. In this jam right here, they play New Order’s Blue Monday with only instruments that were available in the 1930s.
No electric guitar, synthesizer, keyboards or what have you.
Plenty of masks on the dudes playing, though. And plenty of awesome.
It gets rather creepy toward the midpoint of the video and yes, even though it doesn’t seem like it at first, there are vocals.
Blue Monday was released on March 7, 1983. It still sounds good in just about any time period.
